In 1990, Sandy Sachs (reclining) and Robin Gans moved from New York to Los Angeles, only to find lesbian nightlife a little lacking. That year they opened Girl Bar, with an emphasis on hot DJs and a sexy and very visible clientele. Not a pair to rest on their laurels, they've expanded their sapphic domain to Girl Bar nights at clubs in Phoenix and Chicago, and to Palm Springs, Calif., where they cofounded the annual Girl Bar Dinah Shore Weekend, the largest lesbian event in the world. Sachs (who was the inspiration for L Word character Dawn Denbo, played by Elizabeth Keener) and Gans's most recent joint venture is Murano Restaurant & Lounge.

Founded by Robin Gans and Sandy Sachs in November 1990, GIRL BAR is the largest dance and entertainment group for lesbians in the United States. After moving to LA from New York in the late 80’s, Sachs and Gans recognized the need for an upscale nightclub catering to the lesbian community. In response to that demand, they launched a weekly event unlike anything else that had been done before. The concept was simple: to provide the most exciting events, in the most elegant of settings with the hottest women in town. Today, their vision continues to grow and set a standard for excellence in the lesbian and gay community.

“We wanted to do something to help make the lesbian community more visible and create a place for women to come together,” said Girl Bar co-founder, Sandy Sachs.

“Girl Bar is a place where our patrons can come and feel safe, feel comfortable – and most of all - feel empowered,” adds co-founder Dr. Robin Gans.

For nearly two decades, Girl Bar has built a worldwide reputation for featuring incredible special events, hot music and the sexiest clientele. On Wednesday nights in Los Angeles (at the world-famous Abbey Bar, lounge and nightclub) and Tuesdays in New Orleans at the Bourbon Pub and Parade (owned by Sandy Sachs), both venues are THE place for women to be!

Along with Girl Bar’s success, Sachs and Gans have gained national notoriety. Dubbed “The Poster Children for Lipstick Lesbians,” they’ve appeared on such shows as Maury Povich, Jenny Jones and Montel Williams. They’ve also been featured in such national mainstream publications as USATODAY, TIME, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, THE LOS ANGELES TIMES and THE NEW YORK TIMES, and such International publications as MARIE CLAIRE, PARIS.

In the spring of 2005, Sachs and Gans were honored at the L.A. Gay &Lesbian Center’s annual Women’s Night gala and received its prestigious “Board of Directors” award. Sachs and Gans were named “2005 Women of the Year” by Christopher Street West and rode in L.A.’s 2005 Gay Pride Parade.

In 2007, Sachs and Gans opened the highly-acclaimed Murano Restaurant Bar & Lounge, located on Los Angeles’ fashionable Melrose Ave.

In the Summer of 2008, they were honored in OUT magazine among the top 100 most influential people in the gay and lesbian community in the US.

In addition to Girl Bar, Gans and Sachs are producers of the "Girl Bar Dinah Shore Weekend Las Vegas 2012." The Greatest Women's Weekend on Earth has moved to the entertainment capital of the world, bringing with them Linda Fusco and Michele Agnew of Truck Stop Girlz This yearly event takes place in Las Vegas in late April, and is proudly presented by the Caesars Entertainment group. Their host hotels are the Flamingo and Planet Hollywood.

Dr. Gans has a full-time practice in Los Angeles as a licensed clinical psychologist, focusing on issues that affect the Lesbian & Gay community. Sandy Sachs is the owner of The Bourbon Pub and Parade located in New Orleans, Louisiana in the heart of the French Quarter. Bourbon Pub and Parade is host to two of the largest events in the world: Mardi Gras and Southern Decadence.

Enjoying nearly 20 years of success, Girl Bar shows no signs of slowing down. Upholding its commitment to excellence, it continues to be the #1 place for women to meet, dance, play and feel proud.
